Sydney Watts ran the fastest 6,000 meter cross country race in program history as the Chestnut Hill College women's Cross County team competed at the Lock Haven University Invitational on Saturday in Lock Haven, Pennsylvania.
Watts completed the 6,000 meter course in 23:44.7 placing 129
th out of 286 finishers. Watts' time betters the old record of 24:10.1 set by Raquel Lopez set back in 2015 by nearly 26 seconds.
Aubrey Elias also etched her place among the Griffins' top five all-time 6K performances, completing the 6K course iwith a personal-best time of 24:18.3, ranking third among all 6K performances in program history behind only Watts and Lopez.
The Griffins third competitor,
Gabby Hassler, also finished with a personal-best time of  24:50.5. Hassler's time also is among Chestnut Hill's top performances, ranking 15
th on the Griffins' all-time list.
The Chestnut Hill College women's Cross country team has a week off before returning to competition at the Jack St. Clair Invitational at Belmont Plateau in Philadelphia on October 7, 2023.
