Sitting in seventh place heading into the final round and trailing sixth Place Jefferson University by 12 strokes, the Chestnut Hill College Golf team turned in their best round of this year's Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Golf Championship at White Clay Creek Golf course in Wilmington, Delaware, outscoring Jefferson by 14 strokes to finish in sixth place with a final score of 954.
Goldey-Beacom college won the title with a score of 913. The Griffins finished two strokes ahead of seventh place Jefferson (956) and eight strokes behind fifth place Felician University (946).
Rogelio Gerena turned in his best round of the tournament, firing a two-over 74 to finish in fifth place with a final score of 225, just seven strokes behind this year's individual champion Alexander Lundvall of Dominican University. Gerena's fifth place finish earned him a spot on the all-tournament team, the first Griffin to earn all-tournament honors since the 2019 championship when Shawn Mayer placed fifth.
Gerena had a steady match, bogeying just two holes while shooting par on the remaining 16. Over the course of the 54-hole tournament, Gerena fired a total of four birdies and shot an eagle on the 15th hole in the first round.
Hugo Almeida moved up six places to finish 19th overall with a final round of 76 and a 54-hole total of 240. Almeida birdied the second and third hole in the final round and parred nine holes. For the tournament he finished with five total birdies.
Chase Forsyth struggled in his final round, dropping three places to 24th overall with a round of 84 for a 54-hole total of 246. Forsyth parred eight holes in the final round and finished the tournament with three total birdies.
Kiefer Sharman was the Griffins fourth overall finisher, moving up five places with his best round of the tournament, shooting 78 for a three round total of 247. Sharman produced three birdies in the final round along with nine pars. He also had two birdies in the first round where he shot an 84.
P.J. Schulte rounded out the Griffins'Â competitors shooting a final round of 83, equaling his second round score and finishing the tournament in 30th place with a 54-hole score of 251.
The men's golf team will host the Griffin Invitational on Monday, October 14, 2024, at the Union League National golf club in Cape May Court House New Jersey.
