In the final tune-up before the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Golf Championship, the Chestnut Hill college golf team sits in fourth place after the first round of the GBC Fall Invitational hosted by Goldey-Beacom college and played at Wyncote Golf Club in Oxford, Pennsylvania.
The Griffins finished the round with a score of 315, sitting 21 strokes off the leader and host Goldey-Beacom (294). Chestnut Hill is just three strokes behind third place Jefferson who scored 312 and five strokes behind second place Felician (310).
Leading the way in the first round for the Griffins was senior P.J. Schulte. Schulte shot 76 to sit six strokes off the lead. Schulte birdied the seventh and tenth holes and recorded pars on ten others over the 18 hole round.
Three strokes behind Schulte was freshman Kiefer Sharman. Sharman also recorded pars on ten holes and had a birdie on the 18th hole to finish the day with a score of 79.
Chase Forsyth and Rogelio Gerena were one stroke behind Sharman with identical rounds of 80. Forsyth recorded eight pars and two birdies (#10 and #18) while Gerena also had eight pars and birdied the eighth and 18th holes.
Rounding out the Griffins competitors at Wyncote was Hugo Almeida. Almeida shot an 86 on the afternoon with nine pars and a birdie on the first hole.
The final round continues today at 9 a.m. at Wyncote Golf Club.
