Two second half touchdowns propelled Navy to a 28-17 victory over the Chestnut Hill College Sprint Football team Friday night at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium
The loss snaps the Griffins' three-game win streak as the team falls to 3-2 overall and 1-1 in the Collegiate Sprint Football League South division. Navy improves to 4-0 overall and 1-0 in division play.
Anthony Cancellare completed 13 of 18 passes for 173 yards and one interception. The interception snapped his school-record streak of 122 consecutive passes thrown without an interception.  Cancellare's 173 yards give him 1,172 for the season, becoming just the second quarterback in program history to throw for 1,000 or more yards in a season. The senior quarterback also rushed for 39 yards, including a 28-yard touchdown run.
Xavier Limehouse led the team with 67 yards rushing and scored a touchdown.
Torey Moore and Riley Stidham led the Griffins defense with 11 and ten tackles apiece. The defense, however, had no answer for the Navy running game as they amassed 313 yards on the ground with three touchdowns.
Navy's Hunter Gennicks scored all three rushing touchdowns and added a fourth on a five yard catch. He ran for 276 yards on the night.
The Griffins were also plagued by turnovers, with four fumbles stopping drives and giving the ball back to the Midshipmen.
Navy scored on the opening drive of the game to take a 7-0 lead. The Griffins tied the game at 7-7 on their second possession driving 71 yards for the score as Cancellare raced 28 yards for the score. The Midshipmen scored again on their next possession to take a 14-7 lead as the first quarter wound down.
Chestnut Hill completed a 16-play 73 yard drive as the second quarter opened to tie the game at 14-14. Limehouse culminated the drive with a five yard run for the score.
Following the score the Griffin defense forced a punt, and the Griffins took over with 3:14 left in the half.   Cancellare started the drive with a 37-yard pass completion to Miles Coates and followed with a completion to Kyree Griffin for another ten yards. Two plays later, Coates caught a 22-yard pass to put the Griffins within eight yards of the end zone. Unable to advance the ball further, Brady Reynolds kicked a 32-yard field goal to give the Griffins a 17-14 lead as the half came to an end five seconds later.
As the second half opened the Griffins  were driving and were 20-yards away from another touchdown when a fumble gave the Midshipmen the ball back on their own 17 yard line. Three plays later Gennicks broke away for a 72-yard run for the go-ahead touchdown. The Midshipmen added their final touchdown in the opening minutes of the fourth quarter to go ahead 28-17.
The sprint football team returns to action on Saturday, October 25, 2025 when they host University of Pennsylvania at AA Garthwaite Field. Kickoff is set for 6:00 p.m.
