Kalala Returns to CACC Women’s Volleyball Weekly Report with Honor Roll Recognition

New Haven, Conn. - (10/28/2019) –
Junior outside hitter Corrine Kalala (Highlands Rach, Colo.) totaled a team-high 28.0 points (27 kills, 2 block assists) during a 1-1 week of league play versus Georgian Court University (L, 0-3; 16-26, 15-25, 18-25) and Caldwell University (W, 3-2; 25-20, 26-28, 18-25, 28-26, 15-4) to earn a spot on the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Women’s Volleyball Weekly Honor Roll. Kalala added a pair of assists and four digs to her two block assists and 27 kills, which she scored on a .179 (27K-13E-78TA) hitting percentage.

Chestnut Hill College (10-11, 7-6) welcomed CACC South Division leader Georgian Court University (18-5, 9-2) to Sorgenti Arena for Tuesday (October 22) evening's match. Unfortunately, the Lions hit .330 (41K-9E-97TA) as a team to pace the Griffins to a three-set end (3-0) with consecutive wins of 25-16, 25-15, 25-18. Kalala led the Scarlet and Gold in points with nine kills.

The deciding set of Saturday’s (October 26) CACC match was just that as Chestnut Hill College ushered Caldwell University (8-16, 6-6) out of Sorgenti Arena with a 15-4 fifth-set final. The Griffins won the first (25-20) and fourth (28-26) sets before securing the 3-2 (25-20, 26-28, 18-25, 28-26, 15-4) league-victory with the runaway conclusion. The Scarlet and Gold opened the afternoon with a 9-3 run and paced the Cougars to a 25-20 first-set final thanks to some mid-set kills from senior outside hitter Reily Byxbee (Madison, Conn.) and some finishing blows from Kalala. An extended second set favored the Cougars early and late as the visitors opened up a 10-4 lead before fending off the Griffins in a 28-26 end. Momentum in hand, Caldwell University owned a 16-10 lead midway through the third set and grabbed the advantage with a 25-18 victory. But with Sorgenti Arena on their side, the Griffins made a run late in the fourth set, capturing a 28-26 win with clutch play from Kalala, senior right side Cassie Callahan (St. Louis, Mo.), and senior libero Janie Green (Hayes, Va.). The avalanche followed as freshman setter Henielys Ramos (Trujillo Alto, Puerto Rico) directed Chestnut Hill College to a 15-4 finale with a successful opening service and a series of key passes. Kalala led the Scarlet and Gold with 18 kills, two assists, four digs, and pair of block assists.
