Maurer Earns ECC Weekly Goalkeeper Award,
Melnychenko Repeats on Honor Roll

Central Islip, NY – (5/8/2012) – After defeating C.W. Post University 9-6 in their final contest of 2012, Chestnut Hill College’s junior goalkeeper Dakota Maurer (Lititz, PA) and sophomore attack Mike Melnychenko (St. Catharines, Ontario) were recognized on the East Coast Conference’s (ECC) Weekly Report. Maurer was named the ECC Goalkeeper of the Week while Melnychenko earned a spot on the Honor Roll for the second straight week.

Chestnut Hill College (8-6, 5-5) stole the momentum from C.W. Post University as play entered the second quarter in last Saturday's ECC contest behind a four-goal performance from Melnychenko and a stellar showing in net by Maurer. Melnychenko gave the Griffins the lead with 12:52 with the contest's first tally, 1-0, and after a Pioneer penalty the lead advanced to 2-0 on a man-up goal from sophomore attack Kevin Sonderschafer (Warrington, PA) at 7:02. The Griffins would hold the lead for the duration of the affair with Melnychenko adding the eventual game-winner, in man-down fashion, early in the fourth quarter (12:28), 7-4.

Maurer made 16 saves on 44 shots faced (.727 Sv %) in the Griffins 9-6 win over C.W. Post. For the year, Maurer is 8-6 with an 8.25 goals-against-average and a .586 Sv%. Melnychenko scored four times in the win. After scoring the contest’s first tally, he scored man-up with 5:02 left in the second quarter, and deposited another unassisted tally with 10:26 to play in the third quarter, before providing the eventual game-winner to start off the final frame. Melnychenko also recorded two ground balls in the victory. On the season, Melnychenko leads the Griffins in goals (36), assists (12), and points (48) while also recovering 25 ground balls and causing ten turnovers. In the ECC, he ranks third in goals and fourth in points.

The men’s lacrosse team finished the 2012 season at 8-6 overall and 5-5 in the ECC.
