DiGiovanni Garners Second Straight Honorable Mention on CACC Weekly Report
New Haven, Conn. – (9/24/2012) – Junior midfielder
Carly DiGiovanni (Seaville, N.J.) earned her second straight honorable mention for the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Women’s Soccer Player of the Week title after having a part in each of Chestnut Hill College’s goals in a 3-1 win at Goldey-Beacom College on Wednesday, September 19. The Griffins finished the week 1-1 after a 4-0 loss at Caldwell College on Saturday, September 22.
Chestnut Hill College (3-5, 3-1) ran their CACC win streak to three on Wednesday, September 19, as they left Goldey-Beacom College with a 3-1 victory. DiGiovanni recorded two goals and an assist in the win; heading the Griffins first tally and rebounding a strike for the Griffins last score. In between, she helped senior midfielder
Shannon Catts (Elmer, N.J.) locate sophomore forward
Alexis LeDonne (Williamstown, N.J.) for the eventual game-winner. DiGiovanni completed a cross from junior defender
Stephanie Litty (Marlton, N.J.) at 17:30 to give the Griffins the initial lead, but it was the effort of sophomore goalkeeper
Samantha Pauls (South Plainfield, N.J.) and the defense that allowed the Griffins to hold their one-goal advantage. Just before the break, the Griffins welcomed an insurance goal from LeDonne, who scored a strike off a Catts-DiGovanni throw-in and flick at 43:07, 2-0. Following intermission, a fortunate bounce at 74:45 allowed the Lightning to cut the lead to 2-1, but the tension was soon relieved on a DiGiovanni rebound goal at 82:17, 3-1. DiGiovanni leads the Griffins in points this season, totaling 16 on seven goals and two assists. She ranks second in the CACC for both points (16) and goals (7).
The women's soccer team travels to Georgian Court University on Tuesday, September 25, for their next CACC contest. Kickoff is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
