Looby Lures CACC Rookie Award with Live Bat

 
New Haven, Conn. – (3/18/2013) – Freshman designated hitter Brendan Looby (Sewell, N.J.) was 8-for-13 (.615) while leading Chestnut Hill College to a 3-1 week. In the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) doubleheader sweep of Post University on March 15, 8-1 and 7-2, Looby was 4-for-8 with three runs, two runs-batted-in (RBI), and three stolen bases. He then went 4-for-5 with two runs and two more stolen bases in the Griffins 1-1 afternoon at Briarcliffe College on Sunday, March 17.
 
Chestnut Hill College (9-9, 2-0) opened the week with a great start on their CACC schedule as they officially opened Latshaw-McCarthy Field with victories of 8-1 and 7-2 over Post University (4-6, 0-2) on Friday, March 15. Looby’s first at-bat came with the bases loaded and two out in the bottom of the first inning. He quickly grew a 1-0 lead to a 3-0 advantage with a two-run single, before becoming the Griffins fourth run on a run-scoring single from junior left fielder Joseph Mullin (Warrington, Pa.), 4-0. Following the Griffins early production pitching took over as senior pitcher Robert Hopkins (Philadelphia, Pa.) improved to 2-1 by allowing one run on four hits and three walks while striking out five. Looby went 2-for-4 in game two, helping his fellow Griffins support sophomore pitcher Dominic Raia III (Philadelphia, Pa.) in a 7-2 victory.
 
Following their conference wins, the Griffins went 1-1 at Briarcliffe College on Sunday, March 17 taking game two 5-0 after losing the opener 3-2. Looby went 4-for-5 with two runs and two more stolen bases in the split. He went 2-for-3 with a run in the opener, before going 2-for-2 with a walk and two stolen bases in game two.
 
Looby is currently leading the Griffins with a .397 (23-for-58) batting average. He also tops the Griffins season box score in hits (23), doubles (3), RBI (11), total bases (26), and sacrifice flies (3).
 
The baseball team will resume their CACC schedule on Wednesday, March 0, when they visit Philadelphia University for a 3:00 p.m. contest.
