Porter Collects CACC Men’s Tennis Co-Rookie of the Week Award

Mariano Porter (Cuemacava, Mexico) was undefeated at number one singles, 4-0, and 3-2 with fellow freshman
Pedro Oranges (Sao Paulo, Brazil) at number two doubles to earn a share of the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Rookie of the Week award. Concordia College’s (NY) sophomore Rafael Ferreira (Sao Paulo, Brazil) was also recognized.
Porter secured individual victories in matches with Walsh University, Florida Institute of Technology’s (FIT), and Wayne State College, but it was his 6-1, 6-4 victory over Florida Southern College’s junior #49 Emmanuel Lueber (Tiengen, Germany) that stood as his personal highlight from the Griffins trip to south. He also collected wins over the Cavaliers sophomore Pablo Cabezon (Santander, Spain), 6-1, 7-5, the Panthers sophomore Patrick Hernandez (San Juan, Puerto Rico), 1-6, 6-1, 7-5, and the Warriors freshman Stephanie Robineau (Paris, France), 6-3, 5-7, 10-4, in addition having a hand in the Griffins 3-2 record at number three doubles. Porter and Oranges earned doubles points in each of the Griffins wins over Walsh University, 8-4, Post University, 8-2, and Wayne State University, 8-5.
The men’s tennis team returns to campus to host St. Thomas Aquinas College in a 3:00 p.m. match on Tuesday, March 11.
