Boyle and Ducretot Crack CACC Honor Roll

New Haven, Conn. - (3/24/2015) – Junior transfer Henry Boyle (London, England) and freshman Jonathan Ducretot (Antibes, France) played critical roles in helping the Chestnut Hill College men’s tennis team open Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) play on the right foot with a 6-3 victory over Post University on Sunday, March 22, qualifying them for a dual appearance on the conference’s Weekly Report.

Boyle and Ducretot set the tone for a 3-0 sweep of doubles play for Chestnut Hill College (5-5) with an 8-3 triumph out of the number three slot. The Eagles, however, threatened the Griffins in singles play, bringing the match even with the first three singles points and challenging every step of the way in the remaining three. The Griffins rallying cry came at number five singles where senior Devin Hampton (Midland, Texas) recovered from an opening 6-3 setback to return Chestnut Hill College to the lead with consecutive set wins of 7-6 (7-5) and 7-5. Senior Sammy Atri (Mexico City, Mexico) and Boyle played off the emotion and sealed Eagles fate with respective wins at number six (6-4, 6-3) and number three singles (7-5, 5-7, 6-4).

Taking the court for the first time in nearly a month, Chestnut Hill College met National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I Bucknell University at Green Valley Country Club, safe from the early spring cold and snow, on Saturday, March 21. The Bison and Griffins battled for over six hours with Bucknell University walking away the victor, 8-1.

After dropping an 8-2 decision at number three doubles as the Bison (6-6) finished off a 3-0 sweep, Ducretot was all that stood between the Griffins and a shutout. After Bucknell University clinched victory with three wins at the top of the singles docket, Ducretot got Chestnut Hill College on the board with his 6-4, 4-6, 10-7 verdict at number five singles, 6-1, before the visitors completed the stampede with wins at number four (2-6, 6-1, 10-7) and number six (7-6 (7-5), 6-4) singles.

The men’s tennis team picks up the spring season with a 10:00 a.m. match at Queens College (NY) on Friday, March 27.
