Leckonby and O’Leary Lure CACC Weekly Awards

New Haven, Conn. - (4/7/2015) – Powering Chestnut Hill College to wins over Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) rival Nyack College and Mercy College, freshman attack Hunter Leckonby (Charleston, S.C.) and sophomore midfielder Jacklyn O'Leary (East Meadow, N.Y.) were honored on most recent weekly league report. Leckonby appeared on her third consecutive report, earning her second Rookie of the Week award as she added seven more points to her team-leading 26-point rookie campaign while O’Leary earned a spot on the Honor Roll after scoring nine goals last week; her last serving as the game-winner in a dramatic 16-15 CACC victory over the Warriors.

Never separated by more than Nyack College’s initial 3-0 advantage on Tuesday, March 31, Chestnut Hill College (5-5, 2-1) exchanged runs with the Warriors until O’Leary emerged as the hero with the final goal of the CACC contest, 16-15. Leckonby scored all six of her goals in the first half, stealing the Griffins a 9-8 halftime lead with a last-second score before a more balanced attack kept pace with the Warriors in the second half.

As the calendar flipped to April, Chestnut Hill College welcomed Mercy College to Victory Field #1 for a non-conference tilt on Wednesday afternoon. Behind O’Leary’s red-hot stick, the Griffins scorched the nets for the game’s first 11 goals and cruised to their third straight victory, 14-5. O’Leary found the back of the net five times in the first half, her third straight contest with at least four goals, and freshman midfielder Erica McLaughlin (Magnolia, N.J.) recorded her first collegiate hat-trick as Chestnut Hill College remained unbeaten (4-0) at home this season.

Leckonby and O’Leary respectively stand one and two in the Griffins season box score as Leckonby ranks tenth in the league in goals (24) and 13th in points (26) with O’Leary close behind on her 21 goals (T11th) and 24 points (15th)

Chestnut Hill College has a week off before going back to CACC competition with a 3:30 p.m. contest at Georgian Court University on Wednesday, April 8.
