New Haven, Conn. - (1/17/2017) – Freshman forward Shannon Glenn (Philadelphia, Pa.) garnered the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Rookie of the Week with her two-way in Chestnut Hill College’s 85-78 victory over Holy Family University. She paired her impressive defensive numbers - two blocks and two steals - with her best offensive performance of the season; a career-high 18 points, four rebounds, and three assists. Sophomore guard Mary Trossi (Somerset, N.J.) matched Glenn’s point total (18 points) with a team-high eight rebounds and a team-high seven assists landing her on the CACC Weekly Honor Roll for the fourth time this season.   Â

A frantic and chaotic opening settled into a 15-9 first-quarter lead for Chestnut Hill College (10-7, 6-5), who used early and late second-quarter runs to lead by 11 points, 29-18, at 5:47 and at halftime, 40-29. Glenn was the primary target for the Griffins, totaling 11 first half points on the strength of three, three point (3-of-4, .750) baskets. Holy Family University (5-13, 5-5) retaliated behind senior forward Abigail Iannotti (North Bennington, Vt.) and sophomore forward Katie O’Hare (West Chester, Pa.), who combined for 18 of the Tigers’ 29 points in the first half.

By the end of the third quarter the Scarlet and Gold advantage reached 17 points, 63-46 (0:58). It maxed out at 19 points, 69-50, less than a minute (9:08) into the fourth quarter thanks to the perimeter play of junior guard Vicky Tumasz (North Wales, Pa.), who hit three, three pointers (3-of-3, 1.000) in the period. The Tigers were able to make the final respectable, 85-78, outscoring the Griffins 28-16 the rest of the way. But it was never truly close as the Scarlet and Gold still held a double digit advantage, 80-70, heading to the final minute (0:53) of play.
