Sutton and Kalala Collect CACC Weekly Honor Roll Mentions

New Haven, Conn. - (913//2017) – Chestnut Hill College went 1-3 at last weekend’s Wildcat Invitational with junior setter Kennedy Sutton (Chesapeake, Va.) and freshman middle hitter Corrine Kalala (Highlands Ranch, Colo.) highlighting the Scarlet and Gold effort. Over the four matches, Sutton totaled 10 kills, three aces, 37 digs, eight blocks, and 139 assists, while recording her 2,000 career assist in the process. Meanwhile Kalala offered 48 kills, 15 digs, and five blocks to join Sutton on this week’s Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Honor Roll.

For the second weekend in a row, the Chestnut Hill College (1-7) women’s volleyball team engaged in a quad match event, this time visiting CACC rival, Wilmington University for their Wildcat Invitational. After a 3-1 (25-23, 25-18, 23-25, 25-22) loss to American International College (AIC) (2-3), the Griffins faced Merrimack College (2-4) for the second time this season. The Scarlet and Gold gave the Warriors a tougher time in the rematch, eventually giving way to Merrimack College in a 3-2 (22-25, 25-20, 25-20, 25-27, 15-11) final.

Versus the Yellow Jackets, Kalala totaled 13 kills and two digs, while Sutton supplied 30 assists, a kill, six digs, and a block. Opposite the Warriors, Kalala totaled 10 kills, two blocks, and five digs. Sutton offered three kills, 42 assists, three aces, two blocks, and seven digs.

Chestnut Hill College got in the win column in the first game of today’s competition at the Wildcat University Invitational. The Griffins took their opening match versus Franklin Pierce University (2-5) by a 3-2 (25-23, 25-20, 18-25, 20-25, 15-12) final behind a 19-kill performance from Kalala, 46 assists from Sutton – including her career milestone, four aces from sophomore defensive specialist Kara Turtzer (La Habra Heights, Calif.), and a united defensive effort that placed four in double-digit digs and totaled 10 blocks. Regrettably, the Scarlet and Gold was not able to carry the momentum into their latter match, where they lost to Adelphi University (2-6) by a 3-0 (25-16, 25-17, 25-14) final. Kalala recorded six kills and two digs, while Sutton recorded a kill, 21 assists, a block, and seven digs.
