Evans Earns CACC Men’s Basketball Weekly Honor Roll Recognition

New Haven, Conn. - (1/22/2018) – Helping Chestnut Hill College to their first Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) win of the season; a 61-60 triumph over Dominican College on Tuesday, January 16, and recording his first double-double (16 points, 11 rebounds) of the season in a league loss (86-58 on 1/20) to Bloomfield College. Evans was 5-of-7 (.714) from long range in a 16-of-22 (.727) shooting performance that averaged him 19.5 points-per-game (PPG). He also grabbed 8.5 rebounds-per-game (RPG) and totaled two blocks and a pair of steals in the process.

Chestnut Hill College (2-15, 1-9) broke into the CACC win column on Tuesday evening, warding off Dominican College 12-5, 6-2) in the final seconds of a 61-60 final. Headlined by Evans and fellow senior, guard Demetrius Isaac (Philadelphia, Pa.), the Griffins owned a 58-49 lead heading to the final five minutes (5:26) of play. There, the Chargers withered the Griffin advantage to nothing, 60-60 (0:33), before an Isaac free throw (61-60, 0:08) and a timely block from junior forward Tony Toplyn Jr. (Sicklerville, N.J.) put the exclamation point on the Scarlet and Gold victory. Evans led Chestnut Hill College with a season-high 23 points, hitting three, three point baskets (3-of-4, .750) in a 9-of-12 (.750) shooting performance that was accompanied by a pair of free throws (2-of-2, 1.000), six rebounds, two blocks, and a steal.

Saturday’s CACC action brought Chestnut Hill College to Bloomfield College, where a 16-point, 11-rebound double-double from Evans headlined the Griffin effort in an 86-58 loss to the CACC North Division-leading, Bears. Evans hit two threes (2-of-3, .667) in a 7-of-10 (.700) shooting performance that headlined the Griffins’ 32.4% (23-of-71) team shooting effort. His double-double was his first of the season and the second of his collegiate career.

The Chestnut Hill College men’s basketball team returns to Sorgenti Arena on Wednesday, January 24, to host Jefferson University in an 8:00 p.m. CACC contest.
