Darias Earns Third CACC Rookie Recognition with Second Weekly Honor

New Haven Conn. - (4/2/2018) – Freshman Jesus Darias (Bolivar, Venezuela) earned his third Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) rookie recognition of the year as he garnered the league’s Rookie of Week title after posting a 3-1 personal record between Chestnut Hill College’s competitions versus Millersville University (W, 9-0) and the New York Institute of Technology (NYIT) (L, 3-6).

Taking advantage of a sunny afternoon, Chestnut Hill College hosted Millersville University in Monday’s dual match. The Griffins earned wins in both competition as the Chestnut Hill College women tennis team earned their third win of the season in a 7-2 final and the Chestnut Hill College men’s tennis team improved to 6-3 with their 9-0 triumph over the Marauders. The Chestnut Hill College (6-4) men’s tennis team took the catbird seat with three consecutive doubles win over their Millersville University (1-9) counterparts. The middle flight finished first as Darias and sophomore Antoine Gautier (Eysines, France) combined for an 8-1 victory at number two doubles. After his partner scored the winning singles point, he added one of four insurance points with his 7-5, 6-4, victory at number two singles.

Friday’s dual match action brought Chestnut Hill College to NYIT. There, seniors, Lucas Bocaletto (Itatiba, Brazil) and Pedro Festugato Regalin (Caxias do Sul, Brazil) combined for an 8-5 number one doubles victory to even the match men’s match at 1-1 and individual Scarlet and Gold wins were scored by Darias - 7-6 (7-3), 6-3, at number two singles - and Gautier, but the Bears continued to the get the best of the Griffins in the rematch of last year’s National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) East Regional Championship, winning the remaining points in a 6-3 victory.

The Chestnut Hill College women’s tennis team continues their non-traditional schedule on Sunday, April 8, with a 1:00 p.m. match versus Gwynedd-Mercy University. Meanwhile, the men will open their Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) schedule on Tuesday, April 3, with a 3:00 p.m. match versus Concordia College (NY).
