Hayes and Klah Garner CACC Weekly Field Awards For Success at Blue Jay Tune Up
 
New Haven, Conn. - (4/30/2018) – Chestnut Hill College was rewarded for a busy weekend of competition at the University of Pennsylvania Relays and Elizabethtown College’s Blue Jay Tune Up as sophomore RahSaan Hayes (Woodbury, N.J.) and freshman Gracious Klah (Philadelphia, Pa.) respectively garnered Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Men’s and Women’s Field Athlete of the Week awards. Klah was also named the CACC Women’s Field Rookie of the Week for placing sixth (10.41 meters) in the Shot Put and 11th (25.97 meters) in the Discus.
 
At Saturday’s (April 28) Blue Jay Tune Up, junior Erica Waleski (Rockville Centre, N.Y.) wowed with records in the 800-Meter (4th, 2:29.06) and 1,500-Meter (1st, 5:01.84) that earned the Scarlet and Gold 15 points in a 8th place (8th of 11, 37 points) finish. The Griffins collected a total of 26 points in the 1,500-Meter, as Waleski’s first place run was supported by junior Makenzie Hooven (Philadelphia, Pa.) (2nd, 5:02.60, 8 points), junior Raquel Lopez (East Meadow, N.Y.) (4th, 5:20.81, 5 points), freshman Taylor Neals (Bensalem, Pa.) (7th, 5:22.46, 2 points), and senior Emily Bensen-Abatangelo (East Meadow, N.Y.) (8th, 5:25.10, 1 point). Sophomore Sydni Charney (Garfield, N.J.) added three points in the 100-meter hurdles (6th, 19.99), as did Klah in the shot put (6th, 10.41).
 
Sophomore Sef Penson (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and junior James McKeith (Honey Brook, Pa.) combined for 18 points between the 100-Meter and 200-Meter sprints, senior Adrian Calderon (Hacienda Heights, Calif.) offered two points on the 1,500-meter (7th, 4:26.41), while freshman Zack Bush (Aston, Pa.) (3rd, 17:20.08, 6 points) and sophomore Alex Lynch (Manchester, N.J.) (4th, 17:39.00, 5 points) combined for 11 points in the 5,000-meter run. Hayes headlined the Griffins performance in the field events with 13 points between his finishes in the High Jump (T5th, 1.67, 3 points), Long Jump (5th, 15.91, 4 points), and Triple Jump (3rd, 12.03, 6 points), while senior Duncan Malone (Honey Brook, Pa.) garnered two points with a record discus throw (7th, 38.66 meters).
 
The Chestnut Hill College men’s and women’s track and field teams compete next on Sunday, May 6, when they join their league rivals at Georgian Court University for the CACC Championship Meet.
