Golden Lions’ Long Range Shooting Downs Griffins

Philadelphia, PA – (11/28/2009) – Chestnut Hill College and Dowling College produced a balanced box score in the opening half, but the Golden Lions held a 45-33 lead at the break on a 7-of-10 (70.0%) shooting performance from long range. Graduate guard Christine Marrone (Brooklyn, N.Y) guided the Golden Lions to an 80-53 win with 14 points, ten assists, and six assists. Freshman forward Lindsay Alexander (Huntingdon Valley, Pa.) led the Griffins with 11 points off the bench.

Marrone got Dowling College (3-0) out to a quick, seven-point lead, 7-0, and she carried them to the break with 11 first-half points. Marrone was 3-of-3 (100.0%) from three-point distance headlining a 70.0% (7-of-10) team success rate from beyond the arch. The Golden Lions never looked back, as Chestnut Hill College (0-4) was only able to get within 13 twice, 55-42 and 57-44, in the closing period. Marrone spread the ball around with four Golden Lions with three teammates finishing in double figures. Freshman guard Seja Gamble (Newport News, Va.) scored 11 points while seniors Dearbhna Coen (Galway, Ireland) and Simona Bartkova (Greve, Denmark) each chipped in with ten points. Bartkova completed her double-double with ten rebounds.

Alexander came off the bench for a season-high 11 points and finished the contest as the Griffins' leading scorer. Senior forward Jenna Beck (Philadelphia, PA )added eight points and nine rebounds. Defensively, sophomore forward Aiesha Smith (Philadelphia, PA )collected a block and four steals.

The women's basketball team will head to Kutztown University for a 6:00 p.m. contest on Monday, November 30.
