Chestnut Hill College Women's Basketball senior Kaya Mobley has been named an Arthur Ashe Jr. Sports Scholar Award Sports Winner, as announced by the EDU Ledger.
Mobley is the first Chestnut Hill College Athlete to be named an Arthur Ashe Je. Sports Scholar Sports Winner. She is also just the second athlete from the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference and first female athlete to be named a sports winner since the Sports Scholar Awards program's inception in 2016. Mariano Cepeda of Holy Family University was a men's soccer sports winner in 2018.
Sport winners are based on who is "the most rounded candidate at their community service, academic awards, athletic achievement, and grades." Students named Arthur Ashe Jr. Sports Scholars must also maintain at least 3.5 cumulative grade point average, be at least a sophomore academically, and participate in community service.
Mobley sports a dual major of Early Education and Special Education. The senior guard appeared in all 30 games this season while starting 26. She finished second on the team in assists with 88 and third in steals with 39. Joining the Griffins in 2024, Mobley has produced 127 career assists to rank among the Griffins' top 20 all-time assist leaders. A dean's list student at Chestnut Hill, Kaya has been named to the CACC Academic Honor Roll is every semester since enrolling at the College. At the upcoming Griffin Awards Show in early May, Mobley will be inducted into Chi Alpha Sigma, the national college athlete honor society.
The senior guard has worked with the Boys & Girls Club of Easton; SSJ Sponsored MLK Day of Service with/at Norwood Fontbonne Academy; the Camden County Miracle League; Friends of the Wissahickon Community Service Initiative; and Betty Lou's Food Pantry in her hometown. She has also been involved with student teaching at the Abington YMCA Early Learning Center as well as two elementary schools in the Chestnut Hill area and Springfield Township High School.
