Bench and Second Chances Help Griffins Settle Shock

Philadelphia, PA – (12/30/2009) – Chestnut Hill College owned a 50-33 rebounding advantage and received 35 points off the bench to defeat Washington Adventist University 70-53 in this evening women's basketball contest. The Griffins pulled away midway through the second half as team offensive rebounding earned the Griffins 29 second-chance points with senior forward Chanta'l Hardy (Philadelphia, PA ) providing a 17-point performance.

A lay-up in the final moments of the opening half gave the Griffins a 25-23 halftime lead and concluded a poor shooting period for both sides (CHC 27.6% - WAU 25.0%). Chestnut Hill College (2-9) out rebounded the Shock 23-12 in the second half and Hardy came off the bench for 14 points to make the difference in the closing period. She captained a triple threat, as sophomore forward Aiesha Smith (Philadelphia, PA ) and freshman forward Lindsay Alexander (Huntingdon Valley, PA ) joined in for double figure evenings. They each had three steals; Alexander scored 12 points and harnessed seven rebounds while Smith scored 11 and collected six boards. Hardy added six rebounds and four assists to her offensive night.

Erin Duffie and Quianna Tiggle led Washington Adventist University (0-12). Duffie provided a double-double with 19 points and ten rebounds. She was the lone Shock to have a successful shooting performance, hitting 9-of-11 (82.0%) from the field. Tiggle kept the Shock in charge for the opening stretch of the closing period, before the Griffins relentless rebounding won out. She totaled four assists, four steals, and eight points.

The women's basketball team will resume their Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) schedule with a 6:00 p.m. contest at Holy Family University on Thursday, January 7.
