Lindsay Alexander (Huntingdon Valley, PA )recorded her first career double-double with an impressive performance in the opening contest of the Carol Eckman Tournament. Unfortunately, the Chestnut Hill College women's basketball team lost their first weekend contest at West Chester University's annual event to Millersville University by a 75-60 final. The Marauders came from behind to steal a 35-28 halftime lead before taking control in the second half with relentless team defense.
Alexander led a Griffin run that placed Chestnut Hill College (0-6) in a 17-14 advantage with 12:55 remaining in the opening half. The freshman post player scored six points and grabbed eight rebounds to help the Griffins gain the upper hand. Millersville University responded behind junior guard Dominique Stroman (Woodbridge, Va.) and graduate guard Aiesha Bellamy (Harrisburg, Pa.), who spirited the Marauders to a 35-28 halftime lead.
The Marauders got a second-half boost from sophomore forward Aurielle Mosley (York, Pa.), who came off the bench to help Millersville University push their lead to as many as 26, 69-43. Mosley finished with 12 points, nine rebounds, four blocks, and a steal with a majority of her production coming in the closing frame. Stroman matched her with 12 points and Bellamy totaled 11 points.
Junior guard Jessica Pruiti (Old Bridge, NJ )supported Alexander's effort in the second half, scoring 11 of her 16 points in the closing stanza. Alexander finished with 14 points and ten rebounds to lead the Griffins with her first career double-double. Senior guard Carley Glass (Swedesboro, NJ )recorded three assists.
The women's basketball team will return to the Carol Eckman Tournament to face the hosting Golden Rams on Saturday, December 5. The contest against West Chester University is scheduled for a 4:00 p.m. tip-off.
