Devils Endure Griffins and For CACC Victory

1/21/2010 4:24:53 PM

Philadelphia, PA – (1/21/2010) – It was a slow start for both teams in this evening's Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) contest, as Chestnut Hill College and the University of the Sciences combined for as many turnovers as made baskets (38FG-38TO). The Griffins came back from a 23-17 halftime deficit to even the score at 26-26 with 13:35 remaining; however the Devils refused to relinquish the lead and survived for a 56-48 victory. Four Devils finished in double figures for a balanced team effort, while the Griffins received a double-double performance from senior forward Chanta'l Hardy (Philadelphia, PA ).

Play was sloppy and made shots were hard to come by, as Chestnut Hill College (2-13, 1-6) and the University of the Sciences (5-7, 2-4) combined for 40 points in the opening half. The Devils were first to score and they led until the Griffins opened the second half with a 9-3 run. Unfortunately the tie was short-lived, 26-26, as junior guard Caitlin Shaw (Eatontown, N.J.) came off the bench to help the Devils regain the edge with nine of her 13 points coming in the closing period. She was one of two Devils to record a double-double. Shaw added ten rebounds to her night while senior forward Erin Chesnavich (Pittston, Pa.) totaled ten points and 13 rebounds. Senior guard Kaitlin DuRoss (Sea Isle City, N.J.) supplied 13 points and junior guard Alyssa Hamm (Sharon Hill, Pa.) pitched in with 11 points and five assists.

Hardy scored all 13 of her points in effort to rally the Griffins against the Devils' second half resurgence. She recorded her first career double-double with 11 rebounds and she was complimented by senior guard Carley Glass (Swedesboro, NJ ) and freshman forward Lindsay Alexander (Huntingdon Valley, PA ), who each recorded seven points and six rebounds. Glass also provided three assists from the point while making two blocks defensively.

The women's basketball team continues CACC play with a 1:00 p.m. contest at Post University on Saturday, January 23.
