1/23/2010 4:19:22 PM

Waterbury, CT – (1/23/2010) – A double-double effort from freshman forward Lindsay Alexander (Huntingdon Valley, PA ) and supporting performance from the Chestnut Hill College backcourt kept the Griffins on pace with Post University in the second half of this afternoon's Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) contest. Unfortunately, the Eagles held a 34-17 advantage in the opening half and they used their home court advantage to carry out a 72-49 victory. The Eagles out-shot the Griffins 40.9%-27.5% on their home floor.

Post University (5-10, 1-5) took the initial lead and quickly built on their shooting advantage to own a 13-point lead, 26-13, with 4:48 left in the opening half. The Eagles pushed their lead 17 by the break and on the effort of junior guard Elizabeth Johnson (Norwich, Conn.) and freshman guard Aubrey Latham (Mystic, Conn.) their advantage reached 30, 59-29, with 8:43 left on the clock. A combination of Alexander, senior guard Carley Glass (Swedesboro, NJ ), and sophomore guard Aiesha Smith (Philadelphia, PA ) spirited the Griffins' final strike at the Eagles, which brought the margin down to 23, 72-49, by the final buzzer.

The Eagles were led by Johnson who finished with 16 points and Latham recorded 13 points and six rebounds, but it was the duo of sophomore guard Monique Chance (Brooklyn, N.Y.)) and junior guard Mallorie Michalak (Meriden, Conn.) that really drove Post University's offense. Chance supplied 15 points, 13 rebounds, and two blocks while Michalak handed out 11 assists in addition to getting nine points and seven rebounds on herself.

Alexander recorded the third double-double of her freshman campaign with 17 points and ten rebounds. She was 7-of-16 (43.8%) to anchor a 27.5% (19-of-69) team shooting performance and grabbed five offense rebounds helping the Griffins outwork the Eagles on the glass (48-44). Chestnut Hill College (2-14, 1-7) also received ten points and five rebounds from Smith. Glass added nine rebounds, four assists, and two steals.

The women's basketball team resumes their CACC schedule on Tuesday, January 26, with a 6:00 p.m. contest at Wilmington University.
