Philadelphia, PA – (1/30/2010) – Chestnut Hill College trailed Nyack College 24-17 at halftime of this afternoon's Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) contest. The Griffins forced the Warriors into 11 second-half turnovers and shot 31.3% (10-of-32) in the closing period, but Nyack College still led by as many as 23, 54-31, before winning the contest 54-43. Freshman forward Lindsay Alexander (Huntingdon Valley, PA )led the Griffins with 14 points and six rebounds.
Nyack College (11-8, 7-3) posted a 12-2 lead in the opening five minutes, but Chestnut Hill College (3-16, 2-9) pecked away deficit and eventually trailed 19-15 with four minutes left in the first half. Unfortunately, the Warriors pushed their advantage back out to seven, 24-17, by the break behind the play of junior forward Victoria Sweet (Harlem, N.Y.) who totaled nine points and nine rebounds in the half. The Griffins improved their field goal percentage from 25.0% (7-of-28) to 31.3% (10-of-32) in the second half, but the Warriors mirrored their progress as they elevated their shooting from 28.0% (7-of-25) to 44.4% (12-of-27) in the closing frame. Sweet carried the Warriors to victory with 12 points, ten rebounds, three blocks, and one steal. Senior guard Jasmine Minter (Richmond, Va.) chipped in with ten points and seven rebounds.
Alexander was 6-of-10 (60.0%) from the field while leading the Griffins in points and rebounds. Senior forward Chanta'l Hardy (Philadelphia, PA )came off the bench with ten points and senior guard Carley Glass (Swedesboro, NJ ) supplied three assists at the point.
The women's basketball team heads to Goldey-Beacom College on Tuesday, February 2, for a 6:00 p.m. CACC contest.
