1/9/2010 4:42:46 PM

Bloomfield, NJ – (1/9/2010) – Four Griffins finished in double figures for a balanced performance from Chestnut Hill College, but Bloomfield College's defense gained the Lady Deacons an 82-62 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) victory. The Lady Deacons led 41-23 in the first half and the Griffins kept pace in the second half, but the home team totaled 19 steals and received strong bench play from junior center Tiffany McDaniel (Colonia, N.J.) to maintain their advantage to the final buzzer.

Bloomfield College (3-8, 3-1) claimed their first lead of the afternoon at 16:27, grabbing a slight 7-5 lead over the Griffins. Over the next four minutes, McDaniel led the Lady Deacons on a 16-4 run that extended their lead to 14, 23-9. The Lady Deacons would lead by as many as 21 in the opening period, 41-20, before holding a 41-23 halftime advantage. Chestnut Hill College (2-11, 1-4) kept pace in the second half, as they doubled their shooting percentage from the opening stanza (25.0%-50.0%). Unfortunately, the turnaround was not enough to sway the Lady Deacons' initial command. McDaniel came off the bench to lead the Lady Deacons with 18 points, nine rebounds, a block, and three steals. Freshman forward Dre'Shonda Williams (Piscataway, N.J.) chipped in with 13 points and six assists.

The Griffins were balanced on the offensive end with junior guard Jessica Pruiti (Old Bridge, NJ ) and freshman forward Lindsay Alexander (Huntingdon Valley, PA ) leading the way. They each scored 12 points; Pruiti made four steals while Alexander collected six rebounds. Sophomore forward Aiesha Smith (Philadelphia, PA ) and senior forward Chanta'l Hardy (Philadelphia, PA ) also reached double figures. Smith scored 11 points, collected five rebounds, made a block, and three steals while Hardy added ten points off the Griffin bench. The Griffins owned a 47-41 edge on the glass and were nearly as accurate from the floor (41.5%-39.1%), but 38 team turnovers proved the difference in the contest.

The women's basketball team will return home for their next CACC contest, a 6:00 p.m. contest against Caldwell College on Monday, January 18.
