West Chester, PA – (10/19/2010) – Chestnut Hill College scored in the 78th minute and ended a recent two-game skid with a 1-0 win over West Chester University this evening. Sophomore midfielder Darryl Richardson (Washington Township, NJ) scored a pass from sophomore forward Carl Essenthier (Philadelphia, PA) at 77:47, propelling the Griffins to a non-conference victory.
Chestnut Hill College (8-6, 5-4) suffocated the Golden Ram attack, limiting the home team to two shots per half. The Griffins momentum grew with an extended period of pressure before halftime. Following intermission, the assault continued as West Chester University (5-9) relieved starting, senior goalkeeper Peter Weiss (Springfield, PA) with sophomore goalkeeper Garrett Bleiler (Allentown, PA). Richardson reentered the contest at 77:14 and 33 seconds later he scored the game-winner. The Griffins outshot the Golden Rams 12-4 and owned an 8-3 advantage in corner kicks.
Bleiler took the loss (0-2) in only 20 minutes of play, while Weiss made all seven of the Golden Rams saves in the opening half. Sophomore goalkeeper Kevin Marron (Tinton Falls, NJ) played the final 25 minutes.
Junior forward Gavin Reid (Dundee, Scotland) led the Griffins with five shots, Richardson totaled two shots. Sophomore goalkeeper Michael Goldstein (Pennsauken, NJ) made one save and collected the win (9-6) for the Griffins.
The men's soccer team returns to their Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) schedule when they host Bloomfield College in a 3:00 p.m. contest on Saturday, October 23.
