Slow Start Grounds Griffins against Greyhounds

Bridgeport, CT – (11/14/2010) – Senior forward Trenton Davidheiser (Pottstown, PA) and junior center Dan Comas (Philadelphia, PA) combined for 36 points, 25 rebounds, and six assists, but Chestnut Hill College was forced to battle from behind after struggling to score in the first, five minutes. Assumption College turned a 41-31 halftime advantage into an 88-79 victory behind a 51.9% (27-for-52) team shooting percentage, sending the Griffins home winless from the Purple Knight Classic.

 

Chestnut Hill College (0-2) controlled the paint as they out-rebounded Assumption College (2-0) 49-30 by hustling to 26 offensive boards. The post play of Davidheiser and Comas brought the Griffins back from a ten-point, halftime deficit to a brief 57-55 lead on a three-pointer from sophomore guard Jakeem Bogans (Philadelphia, PA) with 9:04 left to play. Following a timeout, the Greyhounds regrouped and as the clock reached 4:24 their lead was reestablished at 69-59. The Griffins would cut the margin to eight a couple times in the final four minutes, but they could not catch the Greyhounds who closed the affair on an 88-79 final.

 

Senior forward Mike Baldarelli (Sutton, MA) led all scorers with 25 points for the Greyhounds. Freshman guard Cory Schmidt (Center Valley, PA) added 17 points and sophomore guard Bobby Harris (Berlin, NJ) controlled the point with 13 points and six assists.

 

Senior guard Brandon Williams (Philadelphia, PA) led the Griffins in scoring for the second straight game with 21 points; he was 8-for-20 (40.0%) from the floor including 2-for-6 (33.3%) from three-point territory. Comas finished with 19 points, 12 rebounds, and three assists for his first, double-double performance of the season. Davidheiser did the same with 17 points, 13 rebounds, and three assists.

 

The men's basketball team will travel next to Bloomsburg University for a 3:00 p.m. contest on Saturday, November 20.
