Philadelphia, PA – (11/27/2010) – Despite a 47-31 rebounding deficit, Chestnut Hill College managed to stay with Slippery Rock University until midway through the second half. The Rock defense and a versatile performance from senior forward Jabril Bailey (New Castle, DE) allowed the visitors to slowly separate before defeating the Griffins 77-61. Senior guard Brandon Williams (Philadelphia, PA) totaled 22 points, seven assists, and three steals to lead the Griffin effort.

Chestnut Hill College (1-3) trailed 35-32 at halftime and with 11:42 still to play the Slippery Rock University (2-2) edge was cut to one, 48-47. Unfortunately, the Griffins hard work and determination wore thin as a 33.3% (10-of-30) second half shooting percentage and a 47-31 rebounding deficit allowed the Rock to mount a 20-8 run over an 8:27 span, 68-55. Bailey powered the Rock run and led the visitors with 20 points, nine rebounds, four assists, a block, and three steals. Leading all scorers, senior forward Marion Brown (Salisbury, MD) finished 28 points in the Rocks 16-point win. Sophomore forward Tabari Perry (Cambridge, MD) chipped in with ten points.

The Griffins held the lead for a majority of the opening half behind Williams, who totaled 13 points, three assists, and two steals. He finished the contest with 22 points on 8-of-14 (57.1%) shooting. Williams also supplied seven assists and three steals. Junior guard Uros Kovacevic (Kotor, Montenegro) contributed ten points, six rebounds, and three assists in his first start as a Griffin while sophomore guard Mark DiRugeris Jr. (Woodbury, NJ) totaled 13 points, three assists and, a team-high, seven rebounds.

The men's basketball team returns to action on Wednesday, December 1, when they travel to Kutztown University for an 8:00 p.m. contest.
