Philadelphia, PA – (12/11/2010) – Goldey-Beacom College defeated Chestnut Hill College 63-49 in this evening's Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) contest to remain unbeaten in league play. The Lightning held the Griffins to a 21.7% (5-of-23) shooting performance in the first half and with a 49-38 rebounding edge they found victory. Sophomore forward Lindsay Alexander (Huntingdon Valley, PA) totaled 12 points, seven rebounds, and three steals as the Griffins top player.
Goldey-Beacom College (4-4, 3-0) controlled the contest from the opening tip and their lead peaked as the contest reached the midway point of the opening half. Sophomore forward Irene Hudson (Syracuse, NY) came off the Lightning bench to carry the home team to an 18-point lead, 24-6, with 9:44 still remaining in the period. She totaled 12 points by the break helping the Lightning to a 35-18 halftime advantage. After intermission, Alexander and senior guard Jessica Pruiti (Old Bridge, NJ) lead the Griffins reprise, spiriting Chestnut Hill College (3-6, 1-2) on a 25-8 run. The margin was narrowed to four, 47-43, but senior guard Janae Weldon (Trenton, NJ) and the rest of the Lightning reunited for a 16-6 run of their own to close the affair on a 63-49 final.
Hudson finished with 16 points in her reserve role. Weldon directed the Lightning offense with 12 points and seven assists; junior guard Jacinda Jones (Claymont, DE) contributed 13 points and senior forward Arielle Alford (Bordentown, NJ) anchored the win with 13 rebounds, a block, and two steals.
Alexander was 6-of-11 (54.5%) from the field as the Griffins top scorer. Pruiti added nine points, four rebounds, and two steals to Alexander's effort and despite 15 combined rebounds from senior center Cecelia Herald (Gaithersburg, MD) and junior forward Ebony Washington (Philadelphia, PA) the Griffins still trailed the Lightning by nine boards.
The women's basketball team plays their last contest before the holiday break on Sunday, December 19, when they host Lock Haven University in a 3:00 p.m. contest.
