Philadelphia, PA – (12/7/2010) – Chestnut Hill College and Philadelphia University were tied at halftime and never separated by more than six points in the second half until a final push led the Lady Rams to a 66-57 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) victory. Sophomore forward Lindsay Alexander (Huntingdon Valley, PA) led the Griffins with a 24-point, 12-rebound effort.
Philadelphia University (3-3, 1-1) quickly jumped to the advantage, but behind the play of Alexander, Chestnut Hill College (2-5, 0-1) responded and tied the contest heading to the intermission, 25-25. On the strong post play of junior forward Christina Wooding (Northfield, NJ) the Lady Rams built a 16-8 advantage midway through the period (9:22). Following a Griffin timeout, a refocused home lineup took the court. With 11 points, four rebounds, and four steals, from Alexander the rejuvenated Griffins managed to even the contest by halftime.
The contest remained neck-and-neck for the majority of the second half with Chestnut Hill College taking their first lead, 42-40, with 11:33 left to play. Unfortunately, the advantage was short-lived as Wooding and sophomore forward Kristen Blye (Chester Springs, PA) rallied the Lady Rams back to a 55-54 lead with 2:54 left on the game clock. In those final minutes, the Lady Rams used the momentum to pull away for the 66-57 win.
Wooding headlined four Lady Rams who reached double figures. She totaled 18 points, seven rebounds, and three steals. Blye finished with 17 points and eight rebounds. Senior forward Kate Brennan (Stratford, NJ) recorded 13 points while junior guard Stephanie Agger (Wildwood Crest, NJ) contributed ten points, five assists, and four steals.
Alexander hit 9-of-18 (50.0%) from the floor and 4-of-7 (57.1%) at the free throw line to tie her career-high with 24 points. She also hustled to 12 rebounds for her second double-double of the season and made four steals. Senior center Cecelia Herald (Gaithersburg, MD) added eight points and seven rebounds while senior guard Jessica Pruiti (Old Bridge, NJ) contributed on both sides of the court with six points, four rebounds, four assists, a block, and three steals.
The women's basketball team continues their CACC schedule with a 7:00 p.m. home contest against Georgian Court University on Thursday, December 9.
