Alexander and Laing Lead Griffins over Lady Chargers

Philadelphia, PA – (2/13/2010) – Chestnut Hill College opened the second half with four free throws thanks to double technical fouls assessed to the Dominican College bench. The Griffins converted all four free shots and began the closing period with a 32-28 advantage before finishing the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) contest with a 70-60 triumph. Chestnut Hill College extended their lead to as many as 17, 58-41, in the closing period and they ended a four-game losing streak on the leading effort of freshman forward Lindsay Alexander (Huntingdon Valley, PA ).

Despite a lesser first-half, shooting percentage (42.9% - 31.3%) Dominican College (10-12, 7-7) still held a nine-point lead, 24-15, with eight minutes remaining in the period. Sparked by freshman guard Latoya Laing (Snelville, GA ), the Griffins went on a 13-4 heading into the break. Laing went 3-of-4 (75.0%) from the floor and hit two, three-point shots leading the run. A difference in opinion led to two technical fouls on the visitors as the opponents left the court for the locker rooms. Senior forward Jenna Beck (Philadelphia, PA ) converted all four free throws at the start of the period and the behind 13 second-half points from Alexander, Chestnut Hill College (4-19, 3-12) earned their fourth win of the season.

Freshman guard Shannon Lavelle (Floral Park, N.Y.) and senior guard Rachelle Sainten (Spring Valley, N.Y.) led the Lady Chargers. Lavelle finished with 15 points, three assists, and a steal. Sainten posted a similar numbers with 14 points, three assists, and a steal. Senior forward Adele Laskowski (Wayne, N.J.) collected a team-high eight rebounds.

Alexander reached the 20-point plateau for the second time in her freshman campaign. She was 9-of-13 (69.2%) from the floor and 2-of-4 (50.0%) at the line while also recording six rebounds, a block, and a steal. Laing finished the contest with 12 points after having eight by the break, she also made two steals. Junior guard Jessica Pruiti (Old Bridge, NJ ) chipped in with 12 points, a block, and three steals while senior guard Carley Glass (Swedesboro, NJ ) was spectacular at the point with eight points and a career-high 11 assists.

The women's basketball team continues their CACC schedule with a 6:00 p.m. contest at Felician College on Thursday, February 18.
