Devils’ Second Half Seals Win Over Women’s Basketball

2/21/2010 10:00:32 PM

Philadelphia, PA – (2/21/2010) – The University of the Sciences led Chestnut Hill College 34-21 at halftime and with a 70.0% (14-of-20) second-half shooting performance and 17 Griffin turnovers they held on for an 80-58 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) victory. The Griffins out worked the Devils on the glass, 44-31, but it was not enough to challenge the efficient Devils' offense.

Off the bench, junior guard Colleen Christian (Warrington, Pa.) scored 12 first-half points to lead the University of the Sciences (10-14, 6-10) to a 34-21 halftime advantage. Following the break, the Devils hit 14-of-20 (70.0%) from the floor and 17-of-20 (85.0%) at the free throw line leaving little room for the Griffins to rally. Freshman forward Lindsay Alexander (Huntingdon Valley, PA ) attempted to spark a comeback as she scored all 11 of her points in the closing period, but it was not enough to close the gap.

Four Devils finished in double figures; Christian was the high scorer hitting 5-of-8 (62.5%) from the field, including three from long range, and 2-of-2 (100.0%) from the charity stripe. Also providing support off the bench, junior guard Caitlin Shaw (Eatontown, N.J.) totaled 12 points, seven rebounds, four assists, two blocks, and a steal. Senior forward Erin Chesnavich (Pittston, Pa.) led the Devils with eight rebounds she also scored 14 points. Her sister, junior forward, Marissa Chesnavich (Pittston, Pa.) contributed 11 points in the win.

Senior forward Chanta'l Hardy (Philadelphia, PA ) totaled 12 points and eight rebounds, leading the Griffins in both categories. Junior guard Jessica Pruiti (Old Bridge, NJ ) helped Chestnut Hill College (5-21, 4-14) on both ends of the court with nine points, five assists, a block, and two steals.

The women's basketball team concludes their season with a CACC contest against Wilmington University on Saturday, February 27. The women's game opens the Senior Day doubleheader with a 1:00 p.m. tip-off.
