Holy Family University Eludes Griffins for CACC Win

Philadelphia, PA – (2/4/2010) – Chestnut Hill College held Holy Family University in check at the start of this evening's Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) contest as the opponents were locked in a 14-14 tie, with 11:45 remaining in the opening half. Unfortunately, the Tigers promptly seized the momentum on the play of junior forward Catherine Carr (Bedminster, N.J.), before eventually claiming a 78-41 victory.

Chestnut Hill College (3-18, 2-11) led Holy Family University (19-1, 12-0) by five, 11-6, in the opening five minutes of play. However, the advantage was short-lived as the Tigers responded with a 31-4 run to lead 37-15 at halftime. Carr led the Tigers' first half production with 11 points and six rebounds, while freshman forward Lindsay Alexander (Huntingdon Valley, PA ) was responsible for over half (8) of the Griffins first-half points. Following the break, the Tigers extended the deficit, expanding their advantage to as many as 39, 62-23, in the period. Freshman center Erin Mann (West Chester, Pa.) came off the bench to lead Holy Family University with 23 points and 11 rebounds. Carr finished with 15 points and seven rebounds, while junior forward Lindsey Tennett (Perkasie, Pa.) chipped in with 13 points. Defensively, the Tigers were captained by senior forward Christine McCollum (Abington, Pa.), who recorded a block and three steals while hustling to 11 rebounds.

Alexander was the Griffins' top performer with 12 points and five rebounds. Senior forward Chanta'l Hardy (Philadelphia, PA ) contributed eight points, senior guard Carley Glass (Swedesboro, NJ ) supplied five assists, and senior forward Davina Yacab (Patterson, NJ ) grabbed a team-high six rebounds.

The women's basketball team continues their CACC schedule with a 1:00 p.m. contest at Felician College on Saturday, February 6.
