Lafayette Hill, PA – (3/20/2010) – Chestnut Hill College opened their Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) schedule this afternoon with a home contest against Georgian Court University. The Lions leaped out to a 4-0 advantage before defeating the Griffins 14-5. Senior attack Maryanne Glass (Swedesboro, NJ) led the Griffins with three goals.
Junior midfielder Jillian Sanger (Bowmansville, PA) ended the Lions' opening run with her first goal of the season, as Chestnut Hill College (1-2, 0-1) matched Georgian Court University (4-1, 1-0) goal-for-goal over the last 20:22 of the first half. The Lions extended a 6-2 halftime lead with the first, four goals of the second half (10-2), before senior midfielder Carley Glass (Swedesboro, NJ) ended the Lion run (10-3) with 15:11 still to play. Unfortunately, the Lions strung together three straight scores (13-3) before closing the contest on a 14-5 final.
Junior attack Ryan McGrath (Manasquan, NJ) led the Lions with three goals. She was supported by senior attack Jillian Hadfield (Jackson, NJ) who scored a goal and provided two assists. Senior midfielder Natalie Bermudez (Toms River, NJ) contributed two goals, five ground balls, five draws, and three caused turnovers to the win. Senior goalkeeper Christine Latteri (West Long Beach, NJ) earned that win with four saves in the contest.
Carley Glass and Sanger gained valuable possessions in the midfield for Chestnut Hill College. Sanger totaled three draws, three ground balls and a caused turnover in addition to her score, while Glass supported her goal with three ground balls, a draw control, and three caused turnovers. Maryanne Glass led the team with eight shots, while Carley totaled six and freshman midfielder Emily Goode (Ellicottville, NY) added four. Junior goalkeeper Cherise Bell (Elkins Park, PA) took the loss (1-2) and made three saves.
The women's lacrosse team continues the CACC schedule with a trip to Holy Family University on Tuesday, March 23. The contest is scheduled for a 4:00 p.m. opening draw.
