Tigers Top Griffins in Women’s Lacrosse Rematch

Philadelphia, PA – (4/18/2010) – Chestnut Hill College trailed the Tigers by one goal at halftime, 7-6, but Holy Family University used a mid second-half run to defeat the Griffins 16-10 in this afternoon's Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) contest. Senior attack Maryanne Glass (Swedesboro, NJ) led the Griffins with six scores.

 

Sophomore attack Gina Mansi (Washington Twp., NJ) scored the first, two goals of the contest for Holy Family University (8-6, 7-4), but Chestnut Hill College (4-10, 3-7) closed the first half with a 4-1 run.  Glass bookended the scoring streak to narrow the deficit to 7-6 at intermission. She kept to the pressure on to start the second half, eventually bringing the Griffins even, 8-8, with 19:11 left to play. Unfortunately, the Tigers closed the contest on an 8-2 run to defeat the Griffins for the second time this season. Mansi was one of two Tigers to score five goals, freshman midfielder Stephanie McNesby (Philadelphia, PA) was the other. Junior attack Jennifer James (Philadelphia, PA) added four goals and an assist while sophomore Melissa Jenkins (Glenolden, PA) made seven saves in the win.

 

Glass totaled six goals, an assist, and a draw control to headline the Griffin effort. Her sister, senior midfielder Carley Glass (Swedesboro, NJ) contributed two goals, two assists, seven ground balls, two draws, and two caused turnovers. Freshman defender Erica Eaby (Lancaster, PA) had her best performance of the season with two ground balls, two draws, and three caused turnovers. Sophomore goalkeeper Ashley Hoch (Philadelphia, PA) took the loss (0-2) while junior goalkeeper Cherise Bell (Elkins Park, PA) made all four of the Griffins' saves in the final 51:07 of the affair.

 

The women's lacrosse team travels to Wilmington University for their next CACC contest. Opening draw is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 20.
