Lions Comeback on Griffins to Get CACC Sweep

Lakewood, NJ – (4/22/2010) – Chestnut Hill College held a 3-0 lead with three outs to go in the game two of this afternoon's Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) doubleheader at Georgian Court University. Unfortunately, the Lions brought home four runs in their final at-bat to take the second game 4-3. They won the first game 11-0, in five innings. Junior Shannan Burdziak (Elkins Park, PA) and freshman Cassie Benson (Rosamond, CA) led the Griffins with two hits apiece in the twin bill.

 

Freshman designated player Nicole Hitchings (Warminster, PA) belted the Griffins' first homerun of the season with a two-run blast in the fifth inning of game two, 2-0. Chestnut Hill College (2-34, 2-22) added another run in the top of the ninth inning on a sacrifice fly from junior catcher Janean Ciancia (Trainer, PA), 3-0. Freshman pitcher Veronica Wilenta (Brick, NJ) entered the ninth inning having allowed one hit over the first, six innings, but the Lions connected in their final plate appearance to steal the second game 4-3. Burdziak had two hits in the contest and Wilenta took the loss (1-15) while allowing three earned runs on four hits and four walks. She struck out two in the contest.

 

Junior pitcher Diana Sansevera (Manalapan, NJ) totaled eight strikeouts in the opener for Georgian Court University (31-15, 17-7). She only surrendered a Benson single in the second inning, while the Lions supported her to a five-inning, 11-0 win.

 

The softball team concludes their season at home with senior day on Saturday, April 24. The CACC doubleheader with Caldwell College is scheduled for a 1:00 p.m. start.
