Women’s Lacrosse Scores Comeback Win In Season Finale

Bethlehem, PA – (4/27/2010) – Chestnut Hill College concluded the season this afternoon with a 17-13 win at Moravian College. The Griffins trailed 10-5 at halftime, but they played the second half with renewed spirit and defensive focus to rally for victory. The Griffins forced 28 turnovers and they held the Greyhounds to eight, second-half shots.

 

Moravian College (5-10) closed the first half with four straight scores to take a 10-5 lead into the break. Chestnut Hill College (6-11) took the field with determination is the second half. They opened the period with three goals, narrowing the margin to 10-8 after only 1:52 of play. The Greyhounds responded with two scores, 12-8, but the Griffin defense eventually took effect and propelled Chestnut Hill College to a 9-1 advantage over the final 18:18. Freshman midfielder Nicole Ehrhardt (Reston, VA) netted the game-tying goal in the middle of a 7-0 closing run, which also included three scores from senior midfielder Carley Glass (Swedesboro, NJ). Glass led the Griffins with five goals; she also provided an assist, three ground balls, six draws, and three caused turnovers.

 

Senior midfielder Katie Wise (Ardsley, PA) and junior midfielder Sarah Carman (Perkasie, PA) each scored four goals for Moravian College. Wise also recorded an assist in addition to collecting three ground balls, five draws, and three caused turnovers. Carman recovered four ground balls. Senior goalkeeper Courtney Rosenberg (Cape May, NJ) made 18 saves despite taking the loss.

 

Six Griffins scored in the united team effort. Freshman attack Nicole Covella (Vineland, NJ) totaled four goals to go along with three draws, a ground ball, and a caused turnover. Senior attack Maryanne Glass (Swedesboro, NJ) provided three goals, two assists, two ground balls, two draws, and a caused turnover while junior midfielder Jillian Sanger (Bowmansville, PA) pitched in with two goals, two assists, three ground balls, two draws, and two caused turnovers. Freshman midfielder Christina Squillante (Kings Park, NY) accounted for the other two Griffin goals; she also hustled to two ground balls. Junior goalkeeper Cherise Bell (Elkins Park, PA) started and made seven saves in the opening 37:01 while sophomore goalkeeper Ashley Hoch (Philadelphia, PA) earned her first collegiate win (1-3) with four saves in the closing 22:59.
