Glasses Guide Griffins in CACC Sequel with Lady Chargers

Lafayette Hill, PA – (4/6/2010) – Chestnut Hill College got revenge on Dominican College as they evened the season series with an 18-13 win over their Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) rivals. The Glass sisters split 14 goals to carry the Griffins to their third CACC victory.

 

Dominican College (1-6, 1-5) held a 2-1 lead for the opening 9:22 of the game, when senior attack Maryanne Glass (Swedesboro, NJ) tied the contest, 2-2, with an unassisted score. She scored the next goal of the game at the 12-minute mark on the assist from her sister, senior midfielder Carley Glass (Swedesboro, NJ); who scored the next Chestnut Hill College (3-5, 2-3) goal 23 seconds later to put the home team ahead 4-2. The Griffins scored three of the next four goals to hold their largest lead of the half, 7-3, with 13:03 remaining. Unfortunately, the Lady Chargers outscored the Griffins to break, narrowing the deficit to three, 11-8. Following halftime, the Griffins briefly enjoyed a 13-8 advantage before sophomore midfielder Aubree Williams (Great Meadows, NJ) sparked the Lady Chargers final push with back-to-back scores in the seventh minute of the second half (7:18 and 7:56), 13-10. Dominican College cut the margin to two, 13-11, before a timeout refocused Griffins for an 18-13 victory.

 

Williams led the Lady Chargers with four goals, an assist, and two draws. Freshman attack Michelle Fiorvanti (Commack, NY) and junior attack Kimberly Nunez (Fair Lawn, NJ) helped with two goals and an assist apiece. Sophomore goalkeeper Lindsay Grundfast (Saugerties, NY) made 14 saves in the loss (1-6).  

 

Both Glass sisters totaled seven goals and two assists to headline the Griffins' offensive production. Carley recovered seven ground balls and seven draws while also causing six turnovers. Maryanne added two ground balls, four draws, and a caused turnover to her performance. Junior midfielder Jillian Sanger (Bowmansville, PA) scored a career-high three goals in the contest and sophomore Kelly McKay (Perkasie, PA) accounted for the other Griffin goal. Junior goalkeeper junior Cherise Bell (Elkins Park, PA) earned her third win of the season with five saves.

 

The women's lacrosse team will host Wilmington University in their next CACC game, a 4:00 p.m. contest on Thursday, April 8.
