Philadelphia, PA – (4/7/2010) – The first game took ten innings with Chestnut Hill College defeating the University of the Sciences on a sacrifice fly from junior first baseman Mike Knipe (Sellersville, PA), 6-5. The second game came a little easier, 6-4, with junior catcher Bryan Henry (Columbus, NJ) leading the way with two runs-batted-in (RBI) on three singles. The Griffins swept the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) doubleheader to improve their league record to 8-2.

To conclude game one, junior right fielder Dan Etherton (Princeton, NJ) led off the top of the tenth inning with double and the following Henry single put two aboard and one in scoring position with Knipe coming to bat. The Griffin first baseman place the ball to right field, and Etherton beat the ball home to hand Chestnut Hill College (10-11, 8-2) the advantage. The Devils closed out the inning without any more damage, but they failed to score in the bottom of the frame to surrender the contest to the Griffins. Etherton was 4-for-5 with two doubles and two runs, while sophomore pitcher Dan Morgan (Upper Darby, PA) earned his first collegiate win (1-0) with a strong relief appearance. Morgan allowed four hits and a walk while striking out two in four innings of work.

Henry gave the Griffins a 1-0 lead in their first at-bat of game two. A Henry RBI double plated Knipe and the Griffins grabbed two more runs in the top of the third inning before the University of the Sciences (0-23, 0-10) knotted the contest 3-3 in the bottom of the frame with a pair of homeruns. Unfazed, the Griffins resumed the lead in the fourth inning with a run-scoring single from junior centerfielder Andrew Koziol (Wilmington, DE), 4-3. Two more Griffins crossed the plate in the fifth inning, 6-3, before the Devils sacrificed home a run in the bottom of the seventh. Freshman pitcher Rudy Behrens (Wallingford, CT) denied the rally and went the distance for the Griffins. He also earned his first collegiate win (1-0); allowing four runs on seven hits and two walks while striking out eight. Henry knocked in two Griffins and raked three singles.

The baseball team welcomes Dominican College to Hostelley Field on Saturday, April 10, for a 12:00 p.m. CACC doubleheader.
