Jones and Alexander Spirit CACC Sweep At Georgian Court University

Lakewood, NJ – (1/13/2011) – Sophomore guard Asha Jones (New Castle, De) ignited the
Chestnut Hill College to victory this evening as the Griffins swept this year's Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) contests with Georgian Court University on a 77-52 triumph. Jones fronted the Griffin offense with 17 points and four assists; defensively she was suffocating with six steals.
 
Chestnut Hill College (3-10, 1-5) attacked from the opening tip and the lead reached double digits, 20-10, midway through the first half (9:31). With Jones operating the point, the Griffins extended the deficit to 17 (29-12 @ 4:26) before play settled on a 35-19 halftime score. She scored seven points, grabbed three rebounds, dished out three assists, and made two steals, helping sophomore forward Lindsay Alexander (Huntingdon Valley, PA) and senior center Cecelia Herald (Gaithersburg, MD) to command the paint with 13 combined points.
 
Following the break, the Griffin advantage maxed out at 27, 55-28, with Alexander sinking a jumper at 12:29. Georgian Court University (0-16, 0-9) never managed to bring the lead under 20 as a 60.7% (17-of-28) second-half shooting performance powered the Griffins to victory and their best outing of the season (53.6%, 30-of-56). Alexander and Jones topped the effort; Alexander hitting 8-of-12 (66.7%) from the field for 20 points and Jones hitting 7-of-12 (58.3%) in her career-high scoring performance. Alexander also collected six rebounds while Jones' defense helped the Griffins force 31 turnovers for 37 points. Off the bench, Herald provided nine points and sophomore guard Kamia Smith (Wyncote, PA) contributed six points, six rebounds, three assists, and three steals.
 
The Lions had three players reach double figures. Freshman guard Jasmine Cobbs (Elmont, NY) came off the bench for 14 points and six rebounds. Fellow reserve, sophomore forward, Samantha Heck (Toms River, NJ) chipped in with ten points and nine rebounds. Senior guard Lauren Staats (Dunellen, NJ) scored 12 points.
 
The women's basketball team travels to Philadelphia University on Wednesday, January 19, to continue their CACC schedule with a 6:00 p.m. contest at the Gallagher Center.
