Griffins Stun Eagles With Opening Scoring Streak

Philadelphia, PA – (1/22/2011) – Chestnut Hill College scored the first 20 points of this afternoon's Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) contest en route to a 55-39 win over Post University. The Griffins forced the Eagles into several early turnovers and held them to a 16.7% (5-of-30) first-half shooting performance to own a 35-12 halftime advantage. The Eagles looked to rally in the second half, but they were unable to catch the Griffins in time.
 
Senior center Cecelia Herald (Gaithersburg, MD) got Chestnut Hill College (5-11, 3-6) rolling off the opening tip and eight minutes later (12:10) the Griffins controlled a 20-0 advantage; the program's longest, opening scoring streak. The Griffins widened the gap to 23 by intermission, 35-12, with Herald scoring ten points. Post University (6-9, 4-4) controlled the second half, but the deficit proved insurmountable as the Griffins triumphed by a 55-39 final.
 
Sophomore guard Casey Brooks (Highland, NY) came off the bench to lead the Eagles with ten points. Senior guard Mallorie Michalak (Meriden, CT) supplied nine points, seven rebounds, and three assists, while junior guard Monique Chance (Brooklyn, NY) grabbed eight rebounds.
 
For the Griffins, Herald's first-half effort was echoed in the closing frame by sophomore forward Lindsay Alexander (Huntingdon Valley, PA). Alexander scored nine points in the period and finished as the Griffins leading scorer with 14 points. She also collected eight rebounds and three assists. Junior forward Ebony Washington (Philadelphia, PA) was dominate on the glass helping the Griffins to a 58-43 rebounding advantage with, a season-high, 18 rebounds; she also contributed nine points to the victory. Herald finished with 13 points.
 
The women's basketball team welcomes Wilmington University to campus on Tuesday, January 25, for their next CACC contest. Tip-off is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
