Nyack, NY – (1/29/2011) – Chestnut Hill College traveled to Nyack College for this afternoon's Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) contest. The Warriors protected their home court with a 76-55 victory with senior forwards Victoria Sweet (Harlem, NY) and Bobbi Van Fleet (Plainfield, NJ) leading the way. The duo combined for 20 points, 15 rebounds, ten assists, seven blocks, and four steals. Senior guard Jessica Pruiti (Old Bridge, NJ) and sophomore guard Asha Jones (New Castle, DE) provided 14 points apiece for the Griffins.
Nyack College (7-11, 3-7) stayed a step ahead of Chestnut Hill College (6-12, 4-7) in the first half to own a 31-24 lead at intermission. Sweet handed out four assists and collected three rebounds in the period while Van Fleet topped the box score with nine points, two blocks, and a steal. In the second half, Sweet erupted for 16 points pushing the deficit to its greatest margin at the final buzzer, 76-55.
Sweet finished with, a game-high, 18 points while also leading the Warriors on the glass with eight rebounds. She helped Van Fleet on the defensive end as well, recording three blocks and a steal. Van Fleet made four blocks and three steals in addition to contributing 12 points, seven rebounds, and six assists. Senior guard Lekesha Harris (St. Alban's, NY) helped her classmates with 14 points, seven rebounds, one block, and three steals while freshman guard Ashley Tallman (Rotterdam, NY) came off the bench for 11 points.
Pruiti and Jones both shot well, combining for a 9-of-20 (45.0%) shooting performance. Unfortunately, the Griffins only shot 28.6% (20-of-70) as a team in the defeat. Junior forward Ebony Washington (Philadelphia, PA) grabbed 12 rebounds and captained the Griffins defensive effort with two blocks and a steal.
The women's basketball team returns home on Tuesday, February 1, to host the University of the Sciences in a 6:00 p.m. CACC contest.
