Gavin Reid (Dundee, Scotland) rose to the occasion in this evening's contest with the University of Pittsburgh-Johnstown (UPJ). After a quick strike from the Mountain Cats, Chestnut Hill College settled the affair and took ownership. A Reid penalty shot tied the game just after halftime, 1-1, his rebound goal gave the Griffins a 2-1 lead at 65:31, and then he netted the game-winner 2:46 into overtime, 3-2.

Darius Gbunblee (Philadelphia, PA) found Reid, who quieted the ball before striking it to the back of the UPJ (7-8) net for his first collegiate hat trick and a Chestnut Hill College (7-10-1) victory. Reid totaled seven shots to lead the Griffins to a 25-7 shot advantage and a 6-3 corner kick edge. He scored his first goal on a penalty kick at 49:53, and his second goal came at 65:31 on the rebound of a strike from junior midfielder

Dave Sullivan (Kutztown, PA) was rewarded with the win (2-4); he made two saves for the Griffins.
The Mountain Cats tied the contest at 81:57 on an unassisted goal from sophomore forward Bryce DeLizio (Chandler, AZ). Their initial score came at 2:16, when junior midfielder Mark Bucci (Pittsburgh, PA) rebounded his own shot off a Griffin defender. Senior goalkeeper Michael Cuccaro (Pittsburgh, PA) made eight saves in the loss for UPJ.
Prior to the start of this evening's contest, Chestnut Hill College recognized Reid, along with his fellow seniors;
Billy Shulski (Philadelphia, PA),
Chris Moore (Berlin, NJ), and
Mario Gutierrez (Magala, Spain). Reid is the program's all-time leader in goals (18), points (42), and shots (144) at the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division II level. He was an All-CACC Second Team selection in 2010 and is a two-year captain. Shulski consistently provided the Griffins with a scoring threat off the bench. A senior captain, Moore showed steady improvement throughout his collegiate career and established himself as an anchor in the Griffin backfield. Gutierrez joined the team as a senior to provide the Coach Cappo's attack with another pair of speedy legs. The men's soccer team concludes the 2011 season at 7-10-1 overall, they recorded a 4-7 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) standing.
