Box Score Rockville Centre, NY – (11/14/2011) – Chestnut Hill College kept pace with Molloy College through the first ten minutes of this evening's contest, but turnovers and some Lion outside shooting led to 33-17 halftime deficit, before ending the contest in a 65-43 Griffin loss. Junior forward
Lindsay Alexander (Huntingdon Valley, PA) came off the bench to lead the Griffins with ten points, six rebounds, and two steals.
Midway through the opening half (10:11) only one point separated Chestnut Hill College (0-2) from their host, Molloy College (2-1), 11-10. Unfortunately, Griffin turnovers on three consecutive possessions allowed the Lions to escape for a two-minute (7:59), 10-0 run, 21-10. Behind the outside shooting of freshman guard Nicole Arnone (Staten Island, NY), the Lions posted a 33-16 halftime lead. Arnone was 2-of-3 (66.7%) from three-point range and she offered nine points, three rebounds, and a steal in the opening period. In the closing period the Lion lead ballooned to as many as 30, leaving the Griffins behind a 52-22 deficit with 9:22 still remaining. Sophomore center Jessica DeNicola (Massapequa, NY) spirited the Lions second-half surge and guided them to victory with 14 of her 18 points coming in the closing frame. Arnone finished with 15 points and 12 rebounds, while DeNicola added eight rebounds, two blocks, and three steals to her game-high scoring performance.
Teaming with Alexander to lead the Chestnut Hill College effort, freshman guard
Lila Jones (Lansdale, PA) provided six points, seven rebounds, and three assists. Senior forward
Ebony Washington (Philadelphia, PA) was a defensive force for Griffins, she grabbed seven of her eight rebounds on the defensive end in addition to recording two blocks and two steals.
The women's basketball team returns to action with anther road contest. Tip-off at the New York Institute of Technology is scheduled for 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 19.
