Box Score Philadelphia, PA – (12/6/2011) – Chestnut Hill College had the edge on Holy Family University for the span of the first half with the sharp shooting of junior guard
Latoya Laing (Snellville, GA) providing the offense and 17 Tiger turnovers providing the Griffins with possession. Unfortunately, the Tigers regained their composure in the second half and rallied to defeat the Griffins 59-52 in this evening's Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) contest.
The Holy Family University (5-3, 2-0) offense was frustrated early by an aggressive Chestnut Hill College (0-6, 0-1) defense, which allowed the Griffins to establish a 19-12 advantage with 7:40 remaining in the opening half. However, as time wore on the Tigers refocused and cut the deficit to four by halftime, 25-21. The Griffins approached the second half with the same intensity, but in the closing period the Tigers were not as careless with the ball. They tied the contest at 29-29 just past the 15-minute mark (14:46) and from there the point deficit was never more than three for either side. The Tigers separated in the final three minutes of play on a three-point basket from sophomore forward Maggie Serratelli (Bethlehem, PA), 53-50, and the inside-out play of junior center Erin Mann (West Chester, PA) and junior guard Molly Hanlon (Narberth, PA). Hanlon led the Tigers with 12 points off the bench. Mann and junior guard Ana Cruz (Lititz, PA) each totaled 11 points; Mann also grabbed nine rebounds, made two blocks, and a steal.
Laing also came off the bench to finish as the Griffins leading scorer. She totaled 21 points hitting 9-of-14 (64.3%) from the floor, which included a 3-of-6 (50.0%) clip from beyond the arch. Senior guard
Aiesha Smith (Philadelphia, PA) helped with ten points and five rebounds while senior forward
Ebony Washington (Philadelphia, PA) led the Griffin effort on the glass with nine rebounds.
The women's basketball team continues their CACC schedule with a 6:00 p.m. contest at Wilmington University on Thursday, December 8.
