New Castle, DE – (2/15/2011) – Junior forward Ebony Washington (Philadelphia, PA) went to work in the second-half, willing Chestnut Hill College to a 65-59 victory at Wilmington University this evening. In turn, the Griffins improve to 5-12 in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) play this season to surpass the program record set last season.
Chestnut Hill College (7-17, 5-12) scored the last bucket of the first half to control a 26-24 halftime lead over Wilmington University (2-14, 2-21). Following intermission, the Griffins grabbed control of the contest. The lead reached ten, 41-31, with 12:24 still to play behind the hard work of Washington who contributed 14 points and five rebounds in the period. The Wildcats crawled back within three, 53-50, with less than four minutes remaining (3:58), but they would get no closer as the Griffins endured for a six-point victory, 65-59.
Junior guard Danielle Thomas (Toms River, NJ) came off the Wildcat bench to lead the home team with 17 points. Freshman guard Lauren Brown (Bowie, MD) scored 13 points and senior guard Jamee Bush (Whitehouse Station, NJ) recorded 11 points. The Wildcat offense was guided by senior guard Ashley Davidson (Willingboro, NJ) who offered eight assists, while senior forward Erica McFadyen (Jersey City, NJ) grabbed 11 rebounds.
Washington led all scorers with 18 points in the contest. She also tied sophomore forward Lindsay Alexander (Huntingdon Valley, PA) for the team lead in rebounds, each hustled to seven boards. After a strong first half, Alexander finished the game with ten points and five assists as well. Junior guard Kamia Smith (Wyncote, PA) supplied seven assists in the winning effort.
The women's basketball team welcomes Concordia College (NY) to campus on Saturday, February 19, for a 1:00 p.m. contest. The Griffins will be doing their part in the fight against Breast Cancer in addition to recognizing their senior class as they host the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) PINK ZONE and Senior Day in the last scheduled home contest of the season.
