Philadelphia, PA – (2/19/2011) – Chestnut Hill College went tit-for-tat with Concordia College in this afternoon's Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) contest, but the Clippers would have the final say on a game-winning, three-point basket from freshman guard Norman Pope (Washington, DC). Pope's clutch bucket gave the Clippers a 77-74 victory and ended the Griffins three-game, CACC winning streak.
With just over a minute remaining (1:09) the contest was tied for the 16th time on a layup by junior center Dan Comas (Philadelphia, PA), 72-72. On the ensuing Concordia College (10-15, 9-8) possession the Clippers regained the advantage with Pope earning and converting two free throws, 74-72. Chestnut Hill College (11-13, 8-8) matched the effort as Comas tied the affair once again with a pair of his own free throws. Following a timeout, the Clippers held possession with 22 seconds remaining. As the game clock wore down to eight seconds sophomore guard Lavar Morris (Bronx, NY) found Pope for the winning trifecta, 77-74.
Pope scored 25 points to lead all participants. He also recorded three assists, a block, and two steals. Morris provided the Clippers with 21 points and, a team-high, eight rebounds while sophomore guard Brandon Whitaker (New York, NY) scored 20 points.
Comas totaled 20 points and nine rebounds by game's end. He finished 6-of-10 (60.0%) from the field and 8-of-10 (80.0%) at the free throw line. Junior guard Brandon Williams (Philadelphia, PA) was one of three other Griffins to reach double figures; he offered 15 points, eight rebounds, a block, and four steals in an all-encompassing performance. Freshman forward Khadim Ndiaye (Long Beach, NY) recorded 12 points and seven rebounds while sophomore guard Francis Ashe (Greenbelt, MD) supplied 11 points, five assists, and three steals at the point.
The men's basketball team joined the women's program in this afternoon's Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) PINK ZONE event, in addition to recognizing their senior class in today's Senior Day festivities. Senior forward Trenton Davidheiser (Pottstown, PA) was acknowledged along with the team's three senior managers; Tiffany Browning, Nicole Corrado, and Pat Curtin, for their hard work and dedication to the men's basketball program. The Griffins break from their CACC schedule for their next contest, a 7:00 p.m. game at Washington Adventist University on Wednesday, February 23.
