Philadelphia, PA – (2/19/2011) – Chestnut Hill College controlled a ten-point lead, 41-31, over Concordia College with 12:12 remaining in this afternoon's Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) contest, but in the end turnovers caught up with the Griffins as the Clippers left Sorgenti Arena with a 60-54 victory. Combined, the competitors made 60 turnovers with the final Griffin lost ball leaving the Clippers to game-clinching free throws.
After trailing 28-27 at halftime, junior forward Ashlen Stayrook (Pickerington, OH) scored six straight Griffin points to spark Chestnut Hill College (7-18, 5-13) on a 14-3 run. Fellow forwards, junior Ebony Washington (Philadelphia, PA) and sophomore forward Lindsay Alexander (Huntingdon Valley, PA) soon joined in driving the Griffins to the 41-31 advantage. Unfortunately, the Clippers responded with an extended run of their own; outscoring the Griffins 29-13 to the final horn. Eight more Griffin turnovers and a superior, second-half shooting performance (32.0% - 23.3%) helped the Clippers come from behind for a 60-54 win.
Sophomore guard Krystina Agard (Queens, NY) and junior forward Chanessa Blakemore (Albany, NY) anchored the Concordia College (6-19, 5-13) effort. Agard led the Clippers is with 24 points, nine rebounds, three blocks, and six steals, while Blakemore was just as effective with 17 points, 14 rebounds, four blocks, and three steals.
Stayrook finished as the Griffins leading scorer with 18 points, she also collected seven rebounds, and three steals. Washington led the rebounding effort with ten boards while junior guard Kamia Smith (Wyncote, PA) distributed six assists. Washington, Alexander, and senior forward Cecelia Herald (Gaithersburg, MD) fronted the defense from the post with, a combined, four blocks and six steals.
Today's contest served as the backdrop for Chestnut Hill College's Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) PINK ZONE event and Senior Day for the women's basketball team. The program recognized their senior class, Herald and senior guard Jessica Pruiti (Old Bridge, NJ), for all their hard work and commitment on behalf of the women's basketball team.
The women's basketball completes their 2010-2011 schedule with a 6:00 p.m. CACC contest at Caldwell College on Friday, February 25.
