Women’s Basketball Season Comes To A Close at Caldwell College

Caldwell, NJ – (2/25/2011) – Chestnut Hill College concluded their season this evening with a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) contest at Caldwell College. The Cougars used a late first-half run to own a 14-point halftime advantage, before defeating the Griffins by a 79-56 final. Four Cougars finished in double figures, while junior forward Ebony Washington (Philadelphia, PA) led the Griffins with eight points and 13 rebounds.
 
Chestnut Hill College (7-19, 5-14) kept pace early with the Cougars, but a late 20-10 run separated Caldwell College (20-5, 15-3) for a 42-28 halftime lead. Junior guard Aiesha Smith (Philadelphia, PA) scored all eight of her points in the opening period to lead the Griffins at the break. Senior guard Kirsty Leedham (Ellesmere Port, England) and freshman forward Jeanette Anderson (Lynn, MA) led the Cougars to intermission with 12 points apiece. Following halftime the Cougars maintained control of the affair and with 6:35 remaining the deficit reached 20 points, 69-49, before climaxing to 28 points in the final two minutes (1:52), 79-51. The contest would end in a 79-56 Cougar victory.
 
Leedham recorded 15 second-half points to finish the contest as the evening's leading scorer with 27 points. She also made four steals, defensively. Anderson totaled 16 points and 11 rebounds while sophomore center Gillian Felix (Mahopac, NY) also recorded a double-double with ten points and ten rebounds. Sophomore guard Torey Jones (Providence, RI) was the last Cougars in double figures with ten points in addition to eight rebounds and eight assists. Senior guard Abena George (Elmont, NY) provided nine assists.
 
Washington anchored the Griffin effort on both ends of the court, adding two blocks and a steal to her team-leading points and rebounds. Sophomore guard Asha Jones (New Castle, DE) joined Washington and Smith with eight points while junior guard Kamia Smith (Wyncote, PA) supplied four assists.
 
The women's basketball team completes the 2010-2011 season with a 7-19 overall record and a 5-14 CACC standing.
