2/4/2011 12:28:17 AM

Philadelphia, PA – (2/3/2011) – This evening's Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) contest at Holy Family University quickly found its direction as the Tigers protected their home court with a 94-42 victory over Chestnut Hill College. The margin was 36 at halftime and it only grew in the second half with the Griffins mired behind 25 turnovers and a 32.1% (17-for-53) shooting performance.

Holy Family University (14-3, 11-1) wasted no time establishing their game plan. The Tigers opened the affair with a two-minute, 12-1 run and by halftime the deficit inflated to 57-21. Senior forward Catherine Carr (Bernardsville, NJ) scored ten of her 12 points in the first half leading the Tigers to the comfortable advantage with help from graduate forward Samantha Thompson (Southampton, PA) and senior forward Meghan Gibson (Philadelphia, PA). Chestnut Hill College (6-14, 4-9) was unable to derail the Tigers in the second half as the gap continued to widen until the final buzzer, 94-42. Freshman forward Katie Duma (Poestenkill, NY) joined her elder teammates in double figures; she led the Tigers with 16 points, two blocks, and a steal off the bench.

The Griffins received ten rebounds, four blocks, and two steals from junior forward Ebony Washington (Philadelphia, PA), but the offense just could not keep up. Junior guard Aiesha Smith (Philadelphia, PA) was the leading scorer with 11 points while senior center Cecelia Herald (Gaithersburg, MD) added nine points.

The women's basketball team returns home to host Felician College in their next CACC affair, a 1:00 p.m. contest on Saturday, February 5.
