Women’s Basketball Bested by Golden Falcons

Philadelphia, PA – (2/5/2011) – Chestnut Hill College stifled Felician College early, but the Golden Flacons eventually proved superior in this evening's Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) contest, leading by seven at halftime and winning by a 69-55 final. Junior forward Ashlen Stayrook (Pickerington, OH) led the Griffins through the early going, while sophomore forward Lindsay Alexander (Huntingdon Valley, PA) helped keep the pressure on in the second half.
 
Stayrook scored the Griffins first, three field goals making the most of her first starting opportunity of the season. She led Chestnut Hill College (6-15, 4-10) to an early 8-2 lead, before Felician College (14-4, 10-2) was able to get comfortable. Behind senior forward Quay Baskerville (Hartford, CT), the Golden Eagles claimed their first lead of the contest as the game clock struck 13:26, 13-12. The deficit grew from there with the Golden Falcons carrying a 28-21 advantage into intermission. The second half came without any breaks for the Griffins as the Golden Falcon lead reached 28, 54-26, midway through the period (10:36). Alexander then came off the bench to bring the Griffins back within 11, 62-51, in the final three minutes (2:22), but the effort came up short as the visitors claimed a 14-point, conference win.
 
Baskerville finished the affair with, a game-high, 24 points; she also recorded seven rebounds, a block, and three steals. Junior guard Destiny Barnette (Paterson, NJ) ran point for the Golden Falcons and finished with 16 points, four assists, and four steals. Freshman forward Katrina Plummer (West Babylon, NY) scored 11 points.
 
Alexander scored 12 in the second half to lead the Griffins with 14 points; she also grabbed, a team-high, nine rebounds. Stayrook finished with 12 points while junior guard Kamia Smith (Wyncote, PA) contributed four assists and five steals to the Griffin effort.
 
The women's basketball team welcomes Goldey-Beacom College to campus for their next CACC contest, a 6:00 p.m. contest on Wednesday, February 9.
